Hacienda Yokat

This Hacienda is located on the road from Ticul to Muna, only 37 miles away from the Mérida airport, close to the “ruta puuc” which includes the ruins of Uxmal among others, and 40 min from the port of Progreso. Originally constructed early in the XIX century, when the whole area was dedicated to the export of henequen (sisal),. it has just over 370 acres, clean and enclosed (walls and fences), where you’ll find 2 main houses, 16 houses for workers, the original “machine” house where the sisal fiber was processed, the chapel, a barnyard, former stables and several patios. All over the property can also be found pieces that help us trace the age of Yocat: for example, Mayan stones or the railroads used for the transportation of henequen. The simplicity of the main house is very characteristic of the region. In the other constructions, decoration is also simple but we can always find the typical taste of the area and the time, such as gargoyles, clay motifs and bullock’s eye windows. The machine house is situated to one side of the property, which allows the building to stand out, with its tall chimney a sign of industrialization in the middle of the rural. The chapel is separated from the main house; this way, when there were workers living on the hacienda grounds, they had access to it without having to go near the main house. This hacienda will make a great retreat center, spa, hotel or rehab center, since with this amount of land you can insure your guests privacy. This is also some of the best farming land in the region, and could be exploited for natural farming, cattle raising, or a horse ranch. There are projects in place for renovating the property, and electricity and wells are the services included.
