The Puppet Theater

A true part of Merida history, this puppet theater in the heart of the city is about to close. The owners have dedicated their lives to this for over thirty years, and they’re ready for new adventures. This stunning two story house is in an ideal location for an art gallery, studios, offices, or perhaps a guesthouse or private residence. The downstairs consists mainly of installations for the puppet theater: the green room for the actors, storage for marionettes, lobby, bathrooms, stage and auditorium for 100 people, sound and lighting equipment room, etc. The upstairs has long been the private residence of Dona Holda, one of the creators of the theater. Following her up the elegant staircase, I’m shown her sitting room filled with memorabilia, her large, sunny eat-in kitchen, a large bedroom with a balcony view of the street (very high!) with well built storage and closets. There is a terrace, a bathroom, another large bedroom with balcony at the front of the house, and two bedrooms complete with closets and bathrooms across the terrace, which unfortunately were unavailable for photos at the time of this posting. About equidistant between Santiago Park and the Cathedral, on a relatively quiet street, this property can be your good fortune, too!
