This property located in the small town known as “Ruins of Ake” will make a great retreat for someone already living here in our area, or perhaps a quiet place to write or center yourself. It is located about 30 kilometers from the north area of Merida, or about 20 minutes away, going past the town of Tixcocob (7 miles away), well known for its hammocks. (Copy and paste this link in your browser to see the area: http://www.maps-of-mexico.com/yucatan-state-mexico/yucatan-state-mexico-map-b1.shtml) The town has a bit of past and present….once a pre-Columbian Mayan city, Spanish colonialists used the stones of the ancient city to build their large house, a chapel, and the independent houses of the workers in much the same style. Today, you can still see there the production of the sisal plant, the huge stalks of the agave being broken down into fibers which are sun bleached in the fields and then sent to the plant next door where rope and twine are produced. The principal estate house is used by the owners, a prominent family from Merida, for entertaining and weekends out of town. You will find in the town all city services, including telephone, a bus to Merida, peace and quiet, beautiful trees, and simple, hard-working people. If this is the kind of life you would like to lead, don’t hesitate to contact us. |
